Toward the back of our property, we have this grove of trees that runs a little wild. There’s something kind of peaceful about this small plot of shady and overgrown forest, surrounded by land that was cleared long before we got here. It’s like a little hideaway.

One day we hope to build the teeniest tiniest little cottage that will have the essentials like a bed and witch’s cauldron, for any visitors who really want to escape the outside world. But for now, we’re working within our budget and time frame, so we got a $70 hammock delivered from Amazon.

We spent a quick 15 minutes installing it between two sturdy-enough trees and, after a bit of adjusting the height, got to lay in it together and gaze up at the lush green canopy that domes the entire area. It’s no witch’s hut, but it feels serene, and I’m so happy we spent a part of our day getting this done.

And now I’m here to tell you that you need a hammock. And on days when the weather is nice, you should give yourself some phone-free time to enjoy a cup of coffee or glass of wine in that hammock and just let your mind drift off.
