Making the Switch to Natural Deodorant
This is a sponsored conversation written by us on behalf of Native. The opinions and text are all ours.
We rarely do entire blog posts about a single product, but we’ve got a lot of feelings on this particular item and we really just need to talk it out.
*Takes deep breathe, cracks knuckles*
Here’s the deal: when Native reached out about trying their natural deodorant, we were honestly a bit skeptical. We’ve used the same brand of deodorant for years and have trusted it to keep us feeling and smelling fresh, so the idea of switching to something else sounded dumb. BUT, we’re always down to try something new and we’re always looking to reduce the number of toxins in our lives (like refined sugar, parabens, problematic distant cousins on Facebook, aluminum, etc).
So, Native sent us two scents--the Eucalyptus & Mint and the Citrus & Herbal Musk. We got them in and gave them a smell and yeah they smell great. The eucalyptus one smells cooling and relaxing and refreshing, while the citrus one is a bit brighter but balanced by the musk which smells earthy. It’s honestly kind of a sexy man smell, which they maybe didn’t want me to say in this blog post but is totally true.
But here’s the deal...how the product smells is like ⅓ of our newly dubbed “Probably This Deodorant Evaluation.” We also have to consider how it feels when we put it on and how fresh it keeps us during and after a workout. We’ve heard horror stories of natural deodorant being either greasy or weirdly “wet,” or chalky and clumpy. Both of those options sound horrible. We found this one goes on smoothly like any traditional solid stick deodorant we’ve used, with minimal streaking or clumping. It felt...good. Like, normal and good and nothing weird.
So far we’re at a 2 out of 3--it smells really good, it feels normal--but there was still the biggest test of all: will this stuff actually keep us from smelling like swamp monsters during and after our daily bootcamp style workout classes?
Side note: we go to different gyms because we do need like at least one hour apart each day, so the plan was to both apply the deodorant, go to the gym, and come home to discuss.
The gyms we go to aren’t like normal gyms...we both go to bootcamp-style workout classes that take place in literal warehouses, in South Louisiana. Yes I know that sounds like the setting for a horror movie but it’s actually just a setting for getting in a hard workout and then smelling terrible.
We went to our classes wearing the Native deodorant and it. freaking. worked. We smelled FINE after. Like, better then fine. We smelled kind of good, which is saying a lot. We’re newly converted natural deodorant lovers and we’re stoked. The tea on this product is that the retail price is a bit higher than some other deodorants on the market (running about $12/stick), BUT for a deodorant that is free of harmful chemicals and toxins AND actually works to keep us smelling amazing, we think it’s a fantastic investment. Plus, it’s not like you’re gonna need to buy a new stick everyday--we’ve each used our own stick daily for almost the last month and they look like they’ve got a good bit left in ‘em.
So, overall? We’re impressed and will probably never go back, and if you’re at all curious you should probably check them out. Here are all their deodorant options to entice you: Eucalyptus & Mint, Citrus & Herbal Musk, Cucumber & Mint, Charcoal, and Unscented. They’re available online but also at your local Target or Walmart stores!
Thanks for stopping by the blog!
