Timeless & Fresh Bathroom Remodel with the Sherwin-Williams Color of the Year 2022

Maybe it was easy to tell from the outside looking in, but we’re learning that apparently, we love bathroom remodels. We just finished up the third and final bathroom renovation that we’ve got planned for this house, and I guess that means we’ll have to move on to doing all the other types of rooms that we’ve been putting off! We’re so thrilled with how this room has turned out. We’ve both said that it’s our favorite space we’ve done so far in this house, and even though it’s our designated guest bathroom, I think our en suite bathroom upstairs is feeling a little threatened.
When we moved in, this bathroom was in need of a lot of love, which is unfortunate to say considering it had been recently renovated just a year or two prior. The fiberglass tub was clunkily shoved between the actual wall and a short half-wall that felt random. The vanity also had a half-wall situation with awkwardly placed electrical outlets and dated granite counters. The ceiling had an ornate but cheap-looking chandelier, and the vanity light left much to be desired. There was no cohesive style, and we found ourselves almost apologizing anytime someone came over and used this restroom. It turns out guests get a little freaked out when you say, “I’m sorry!!” as they’re about to walk into the bathroom.
The before
After going over our options, we decided a full renovation was in order, and so the space was entirely torn down and built all the way back up.
We wanted a space that felt classic and timeless, so we opted for a clean square white porcelain tile on all four walls, a black-and-white hex pattern tile on the floor, a fully restored salvaged iron clawfoot tub-and-shower, a pedestal sink, and vintage lighting framing the mirror and on the ceiling. But we weren’t going to just leave it at the classics—we’ve always said that our design taste hinges on the balance between old and new. While this space definitely leans more to the ‘old’ side, one of the elements that gives this room a truly fresh and fun feeling is the use of Sherwin-Williams 2022 Color of the Year, Evergreen Fog SW 9130.
We decided to paint this gorgeous green color on the door, on the walls above where the tile terminates, and on the ceiling as well to act as a nice organic counterbalance to the more sterile black-white-and-chrome color palette happening in most of the room’s negative space. The result is a calming bathroom that is firmly grounded in more historic materials but doesn’t feel stuffy or dated.
We were so thrilled to get to work with Sherwin-Williams on their Color of the Year reveal for the second year in a row—(remember our Bronze and Brass Dressing Room last year?)—and could not imagine a better color fit for this room. Ceilings are so often overlooked, but with the right paint job they can be the star of a room.
Evergreen Fog is a chameleon color of gray meets green with a hint of blue, and we love that by having the color on both the door (which stretches all the way to the ground) and the ceiling, we get to see every shade of the color. On the door it shows up a bit softer and warmer, while on the ceiling the slight hints of gray and blues start to just pop through.
We actually can’t say enough how much we love this color, and how it makes this space feel perfect.
